Estate housing with everyday frontages
Most Thornaby paving is honest domestic work on 25 to 40 square metre frontages: Mandale, Stainsby Hill, Village and Harewood are all post-war estate housing where the front garden was designed for a hedge and now parks a car. Converting to a proper drive means a full dig rather than a slab poured over the lawn, restraint on every open side, and a fall that puts water somewhere sensible.
Clay ground and settlement
The heavy clay that runs under this side of the river punishes shallow work. The tell-tale in Thornaby is the wheel-track dip: two parallel depressions where the car sits, caused by a sub-base laid too thin for repeated loading. Patching the surface changes nothing, because the failure is 200mm down.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a driveway cost in Thornaby?
It depends on the size of the job, the materials, the groundwork underneath and access. We price every job after a free site visit and send an itemised quote, so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Why do two dips appear where I park?
Wheel-track settlement, caused by a sub-base too thin for the load. Surface patching does not last because the problem is at base level: the area needs lifting, rebuilding and relaying.
Can I turn my front garden into a drive?
Yes, subject to a dropped kerb from the council for the crossing, and to the drainage rules if the new surface is impermeable, over five square metres and drains to the road.
Which parts of Thornaby are covered?
All of the Thornaby TS17 postcodes: Mandale, Stainsby Hill, Thornaby Village, Harewood, Roseworth Road area and the streets towards Teesside Park.
