Paving in Ingleby Barwick
An estate that all needs paving at once
Ingleby Barwick was built quickly and largely within one generation, which means its driveways are also ageing on the same schedule. The block paving that came with the houses on Beckfields, Barwick, Ingleby Mill and the surrounding villages is now twenty to thirty years old, and the pattern is consistent: sound blocks, empty joints, spread edges and a settled area or two where the sub-base was thin.
More cars than the drives were designed for
Family housing built for one or two cars now routinely parks three, so extending a drive across what was lawn is the other standard job here. Two things matter when doing it: matching or deliberately contrasting the existing blocks, because a discontinued colour rarely matches, and building the new section to the same depth as the old with restraint along every open edge. Extending over five square metres also brings the drainage rules into play if the surface drains to the road.
Compact gardens, careful design
Rear gardens on the estate are modest, so patios are usually 12 to 25 square metres and every metre counts. Costs at these sizes are worked through in the cost guide.
